We stayed at the Palazzo Castri during our visit to Florence for two nights. I really like boutique hotels as I feel that they’re often the most charming ones. This hotel is in an old building dating back to 1874. It’s an elegant hotel mixing the classics with a modern feeling.
Here, you can read more about our stay, and what I thought about the hotel in general and what you can expect as a guest of Palazzo Castri.
Room Type
Our room type was a superior room with a view over the garden from the second floor. The superior room at Palazzo Castri is a spacious room with a hallway, bedroom, and bathroom. See photos from our room below.
Outside the room
The interior is elegant and downstairs in the lobby, you’ll also find a bar and lounge with magazines and photo books. If you walk outside there’s a lush courtyard with chairs, tables, and an outdoor pool.
Afternoon Tea
Each day, afternoon tea is being served between 4 and 5 pm outside the courtyard.

YES, I LOVE COOKIES, okay.. :D
Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fi worked well in most parts of the hotel. It was a bit spotty in our room, but after talking to the reception, we got access to another Wi-Fi network that worked better on the second floor.
For me, Wi-Fi is very important for updating the blog and my social media channels. But for others, it won’t be much of a problem that it was spotty in the room.
Spa Area, Sauna, Pool
The Spa area is great and located on the ground floor. First, you’ll find a small gym, and then a nice heated indoor pool with a connected outdoor pool area as well. After the pool, you can enjoy a nice hot and cold treatment with showers with hot and cold temperature.
My personal favorites were the Finnish sauna and Turkish bath, and that’s a perfect way of relaxing after a day full of sightseeing. If you get thirsty there are water and herbal tea served next to the sauna.

Breakfast
The breakfast at Palazzo Castri is actually one of the best quality breakfasts we’ve had in a hotel. While you won’t feel the need for more choices, it’s not the typical breakfast buffet with endless variations, instead, they have quality food, freshly prepared with Italian style.
What’s on the breakfast buffet
Here are some of the things you choose from.
- Yoghurt
- Cheese
- Bread
- Salami
- Ham
- Stuffed tomatoes
- Scrambled Eggs
- Bacon
- Italian sweets
- Fruit
- Nuts/cereals
There are also coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, and milk available.
Staff/Service
Very polite and service-minded staff, always greeting us and other guests when entering or leaving the lobby. Not something that’s of huge importance to me, but it’s for sure a nice detail that adds up to a better hotel experience.
Location
The hotel is located in central Florence, just 5 minutes walk from Il Duomo and walking distance to most places. It’s also within 5-10 minutes walking distance from the central station.
Summary of our stay at Palazzo Castri
All in all, we had a great stay at Palazzo Castri. I loved how they mixed the classics with a boutique and modern feeling. The breakfast was great and the always smiling staff were another plus. This was by the way not only towards us, but we saw same friendly attitude towards other guests as well.
The bed was comfortable and the shower was nice. Sitting down outside in their courtyard and enjoying the Spa was the perfect break after a day of sightseeing. It’s also close to the Duomo and central station, and I would definitely recommend others to stay here if they are planning to spend some time at the hotel as well.

Our stay with Palazzo Castri was complimentary, but my words and opinions are always my own.
