Review of our stay at Heliotopos Hotel in Santorini

Review of our stay at Heliotopos Hotel in Santorini

While visiting Santorini, we stayed at two different hotels, one in Perissa and one in Imerovigli. Heliotopos Hotel is the hotel in Imerovigli where we spent our two last days in Santorini. It’s a wonderful boutique hotel with the most gorgeous view over the Caldera, and Skaros Rock!

I’ve summed up our stay at Heliotopos, and you can read all about what to expect while staying here and see what it looks like from our photos!

Room type (Suite with Sea View)

Our suite was roomy with a big bed, sofa, table, small kitchen and a bathroom, and of course a lovely outdoor balcony with sea view. The bathroom was big with a separated toilet and shower. In the bathroom, you’ll also find free toiletries, towels and a hairdryer.

The main area was a mix of a bedroom and living room, and in the room, you’ll also find a TV, books and a closet where you can hang your clothes. As for the bed, it was super-comfy with 2 large pillows each per person. Another extra feature worth mentioning is the mattress heater, which added that luxurious touch you won’t find at a regular hotel.

This is what you get when booking a Suite with Sea View

  • Comfortable bed + 4 pillows with Egyptian cotton sheets
  • Big bathroom with bathtub or shower
  • Balcony (with a great view of the ocean)
  • Daily cleaning
  • LCD-TV + Digital TV
  • Coffe/tea-maker
  • Free Toiletries
  • Free bottle of water
  • Free WiFi
  • Small kitchen with pots and other useful utensils
  • Hairdryer
  • Couch
  • Table and chairs
  • A/C
  • Minibar
  • Iron board + Iron
  • Slippers and Robes
  • Safe
  • Heating in bed (loved it!!)

Breakfast

I loved the breakfast. They had great options with everything from omelet, cheese, and fresh veggies to Greek yogurt with honey, freshly squeezed orange juice and all different kinds of cakes! Seriously, they had a chocolate mousse cake with berries that made my day haha.

It was also very nice that they fixed breakfast for us in our room because we wanted to take some photos and enjoy the view. Just check out the photos below and imagine yourself eating breakfast with that ocean view – I can tell you that it was a great experience!

Outside the room

It’s very nice to hang out outside the room, which is not always the case when it comes to hotels. But at Heliotopos there is a relaxing atmosphere, and you can really feel the vacation mood. Our suite was in the lower part of the hotel, and we were just next to the rooftop with an amazing view over the Caldera, perfect for vacation photos!

The reception is nicely decorated as well as the restaurant/breakfast room inside a cave. The pool area is also just before the reception with a couple of sun beds. One level up you’ll find The Wine Bar, where you can enjoy an amazing dinner or glass of wine while enjoying the sunset!

All in all, the hotel is nicely decorated and painted in traditional colors. From the hotel, you can also directly access the hiking path to Thira or the one that goes to Oia.

Rooftop

As a photographer, having access to the private roof of the hotel was like a dream. From the roof you can capture some really amazing photos.

Staff

From the moment we stepped into the hotel, we were greeted with a smile. They were very welcoming and helpful. All of the staff we met spoke good English, especially the ones working at the reception and The Wine Bar.

I noticed how they were just as warm and welcoming to other guests as well, and also people who just came for dinner and sunset view at The Wine Bar. 5 of 5 stars for service!

The Wine Bar – Dinner & Wine

So, while I and Christine mostly find hidden restaurants and local places to eat, we decided to try the hotel’s restaurant since we knew that the sunset view was amazing from there.

Not every hotel are serving delicious food, but The Wine Bar serves delicious food and has a great list of wine and desserts.

It was actually so good that we decided to eat here the second night as well. The first evening we chose local fava with onions, capers, and bread. It’s similar to hummus, and it was really yummy. As for the main course, I had the Shrimp Saganaki with feta cheese and tomatoes cooked in ouzo sauce. Fantastic mix of food and flavors.

Christine had the pasta with tuna and capers cooked in white wine, and that was nice as well. To accompany our dinner we, of course, tried some local wine (Yes, Santorini is well known for wine). We tried Mavrotragano & Mandilaria, which was both very good wines.

For dessert, we had the chocolate lava cake, and as you know, I love cookies and cake, so this was the perfect end to an otherwise lovely evening with a beautiful sunset. And, Yes, the chocolate lava cake was one of the best cakes I’ve ever eaten.

In Sweden, we have something called Kladdkaka, which is my favorite chocolate cake. This was something similar, but even more delicious!

For the second night, we wanted to try something new, so we chose Cretan Dakos with a twist of Santorini, and a Quinoa Salad with yogurt, honey and tahini sauce for appetizers. For the main course, Christine had pasta with veggies in red sauce and I tried the Pork with sundried tomatoes and halloumi cheese.

The waiter in the Wine Bar is very friendly and gives you great advice on what kind of wine to choose, and also makes sure that you have a wonderful time dining there. A great food experience!

WiFi

The Wifi worked great throughout the hotel. Not so much to say other than that. And you know that Wi-Fi is important to me while traveling for doing my work.

Location

Heliotopos Hotel is located in Imerovigli, which is at the northern side of Santorini. From here it’s easy to reach both Thira and Oia, and there are also restaurants and cafés within walking distance. Another famous tourist attraction here in Imerovigli is the majestic Skaros Rock.

The bus stop is just 5-7 minutes walking from Heliotopos Hotel, and from there you can hop on the bus to either Thira or Oia.

Summary of our stay at Heliotopos Hotel

All in all, I’m very pleased with our stay here. It’s one of our best hotel stays, and both the Heliotopos hotel and Santorini in itself is amazing. But, for the hotel, I can heartily recommend it. Our breakfast at the balcony was the best start of that day, and to enjoy the sunset from The Wine Bar was the perfect end after sightseeing and photography.

The pool area was also nice and the private rooftop gave us some great photos!

If you’re traveling to Santorini, and want a calm and relaxed stay with beautiful views, then you should definitely choose Heliotopos hotel and say hi from me!

Here’s a video recorded with my phone when arriving at our Suite

Our stay at Heliotopos Hotel was complimentary, but as always you’ll get my honest opinion.

Lovely post! So funny story...I remember seeing you guys when I was here with my boyfriend at the same time- I did not realize you had this blog until I found your page from the Heliotpos Facebook page and thought " I remember seeing them taking photos up at the wine bar one night when we were having dinner!" Now of course I regretted not making friends as I am a blogger myself.... hehe! On that night, I wrote a Santorini series about our trip myself and would so love if you could check it out! I am working on part 2 tonight and that will be up soon as well- multiple parts because Santorini just has SO much to it and I took endless photos. Your photos are stunning and so glad you enjoyed your time, Heliotopos was truly a dream and I would recommend them to anyone.
