12 Restaurants in Malmö that serve delicious food

Want to find a good restaurant in Malmö? Then you’ll be pleasantly surprised because there are lots of them. Malmö is actually somewhat of a food capital in Sweden, and you can find cuisine from all over the world.

This article is part of a paid partnership with Malmö Tourism, but as always on my blog, it is entirely my thoughts, experiences and texts that you read here.

I’ve been eating my way around the city the last couple of years, so here’s a list of some of my favorite restaurants in Malmö, and some short info about each and one of them.

They are not ranked in any particular order, and they are all good restaurants that are worth a visit.

Burrito Friends

If you’re longing for a nice burrito, this is the place to go. Of course, it is fast-food, but the good kind and money worth spending as well. Burrito Friends is definitely one of the best restaurants in Malmö to get a good old burrito with amazing taste.

  • Type of kitchen: Burritos
  • Address: Fersens väg 14B

If you want a Syrian food experience while visiting Malmö, go to Shamiat at Södra Förstadsgatan 78B. There are two Shamiat restaurants in Malmö, but the other one is more of a fast food place.

This is a regular restaurant that serves authentic and delicious Syrian food at reasonable prices!

  • Type of kitchen: Syrian food
  • Address: Södra Förstadsgatan 78B

Restaurang Bastard

A lovely restaurant in Malmö that has become a local favorite. Here awaits good service, reasonable prices and perhaps most of all, food that they would eat themselves, which is also their motto.

Book a table ahead (it’s quite popular). Their menu changes quite often, so there’s almost always something new to try.

  • Type of kitchen: Scandinavian
  • Address: Mäster Johansgatan 11

If you ask the locals, many will hold Vollmers as the ultimate restaurant in Malmö, and even the Michelin Guide agree on this one considering that the restaurant has been given two stars.

At Vollmers, you can expect a very pleasant experience for your taste buds, and it’s a great place to celebrate special occasions. This is not for the budget traveler though, but more so for people who enjoy fine dining.

  • Type of kitchen: Southern Swedish
  • Address: Tegelgårdsgatan 5.

Bullen – Två krögare

If you want to eat traditional Swedish inspired food, then Bullen is a great place to go. You can tell that there is passion behind the chefs at Bullen. The interior design is charming, and the service is excellent as well.

There’s not really much more to say than that it’s a lovely restaurant for a Swedish food experience.

  • Type of kitchen: Swedish
  • Address: Storgatan 35

Surf Shack

If you want delicious burgers, I can recommend to stop by at Surf Shack where you make your own burger by choosing the protein, bread as well as topping and sides.

  • Type of kitchen: Burgers
  • Address: Västergatan 9A

Restaurang Plaka

Want some Greek food while visiting Malmö? Then you should go to Plaka. They have reasonable prices and delicious food. It’s authentic Greek and it has everything for a nice restaurant experience.

  • Type of kitchen: Greek food
  • Address: Södra Förstadsgatan 86

Carib Kreol

Want a taste of Caribbean? In Malmö, you’re closer than you think and Carib Kreol has some amazing food inspired by the Creole kitchen. Their Accrasballs are especially popular as a starter.

  • Type of kitchen: Creole
  • Address: Amiralsgatan 35

Blå Hoddan

This is the only place that serves food at the charming Fiskehoddorna, which are small fishing huts near Malmö Castle. Blå Hoddan is a new establishment, but they have been selling fresh fish there since ages, and now since 2019, they also serve food daily during the summer months!

Their fish and chips were to die for and the herring sandwich was also very nice. I usually don’t like fish and chips, but this was incredibly cooked until perfection and the quality of the cod is impeccable as well, and the french fries are made from locally grown potatoes.

  • Type of food: Fish
  • Address: Fiskehoddorna

Drumbar Lilla Torg

This is perhaps one of the most enjoyable restaurants in Malmö during the summer at Lilla Torg. Drumbar has the best location and serves delicious food to reasonable prices and there is a good range of beers as well.

  • Type of kitchen: Scottish pub with rustic food
  • Address: Hedmanska gården, Lilla Torg 9

Another classic place in Malmö that has served burgers and hungarian sausage for a very long time. It’s not a fancy place, but simple, cheap and tasty. You will not get the best service in the world, but they are still friendly, quick and their food is both cheap and delicious.

Stippes is centrally located near Triangeln, and makes a great stop after some shopping or a late night out.

  • Type of food: Burgers, sausages, street food
  • Address: Davidshallsgatan 27

Thap Thim

Want some Thai food? There are actually quite a few restaurants in Malmö that serve Thai food. What makes Thap Thim stand out is their dedication for food from Northern Thailand, which is their specialty, even if they of course also serve classic Pad Thai.

  • Type of kitchen: Thai.
  • Address: Västergatan 9
