Hotel Review: Noborioji Hotel Nara

Hotel Review: Noborioji Hotel Nara

Our 2 last days in Japan we visited the city of Nara, which is known for the many free-roaming deer. We stayed at Noborioji Hotel, which is a member of Small Luxury Hotels with a convenient location near Nara Park.

Here’s my full review and what you can expect as a guest at Noborioji Hotel in Nara!

Room Standard (Suite)

The suite at Noborioji is very spacious with a large living room and separate bedroom with a desk and big flatscreen TV. In the living room, you even have your own electrical fireplace to set the mood, and a nice armchair to relax in as well as a couch.

The bedroom features a large Kingsize bed which was very comfy with great pillows. The desk was also convenient if you need to do some work on your laptop. The bathroom was nice too with a separated toilet and shower, as well as a bathtub. The shower was especially nice with several features and water pressure.

From the living room and bedroom, you also have a great view of nature and temple area next to the hotel.

This is what you get when booking a suite

  • Comfy Bed with fluffy pillows and soft sheets

  • Livingroom area with armchair/couch, fireplace, Minibar, and flatscreen TV

  • Spacious bathroom with both shower and tub

  • Balcony with view of lush nature

  • Air conditioning

Breakfast

The breakfast at Noborioji Hotel in Nara is not a buffet, but rather a set menu where you can choose between a continental breakfast or traditional Japanese breakfasts. We opted for the continental one, which was plentiful, even though I prefer to choose my own breakfast.

This breakfast includes some fresh fruit, bread, eggs of your choice, coffee or tea as well as a salad and yogurt. We didn’t try the Japanese breakfast, but I’m sure it’s nice too. The quality of the food is good, but as mentioned, I don’t appreciate to be limited while eating breakfast at a luxury hotel.

Outside the room

The lobby area is quite beautifully decorated with some armchairs and couches where you can relax. Next to the reception, you will find the French-styled restaurant as well as a bar. The hotel also offers a small gym and spa treatments.

As for the details otherwise, it felt more like a 3-star hotel, rather than a luxury hotel. Don’t get me wrong, the lobby and restaurant are beautifully decorated and the service is impeccable, but you would expect some more interior in the main areas while staying at a fancy hotel.

Dinner

We ate one dinner at Noborioji hotel in Nara, where we tried their French-styled cuisine. I was pleasantly surprised how well the dishes where displayed and the taste was great too. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite elegant. Noborioji hotel also has this nice gesture where they take a photo of you and then print it during your dinner.

Live piano music was played throughout the dinner, and it was a lovely dinner with romantic and elegant vibes. The service was great too. I could recommend other guests to eat the restaurant of Noborioji Hotel in Nara.

Staff

If there is one thing that I will memorize from this hotel stay is the service from the staff, it’s almost like they are treating you as their master or something like that. Not a treatment I’m very fond of, but they do go out their ways to make every guest pleased, which is great.

The staff also provided us with some cookies for the deer, another nice gesture from the Noborioji hotel!

WiFi

Wi-Fi is, of course, important for me and other digital nomads, and also for many tourists. But don’t worry, the Wi-Fi is working great at Noborioji Hotel. It works throughout the entire hotel area.

Location

The location of Noborioji Hotel in Nara is quite ideal if you’re coming here to see the wild deer. It’s within walking distance to Nara Park where most deer live, and it’s just around the corner of the Nara-Kintetsu station.

3-5 minutes walking from the hotel you will also find buses that will take you basically wherever you want to go in Nara. For me the location of Noborioji was great, and it’s very central for tourism.

  • Great Service and helpful staff
  • Spacious suites
  • Elegant restaurant with great food
  • Good Wi-Fi
  • Location is great if you want to see wild deer
  • Good Breakfast, but would’ve preferred a buffet or more choices

Would I recommend other guests to stay at Noborioji Hotel in Nara? Yes, it’s a great choice if you prefer to stay at a luxury hotel, but if you don’t care that much about the stars, you can probably find a better value for your money elsewhere.

But again, the service is great and if you choose to stay at Noborioji you’ll probably not be disappointed!
