Want to know more what it’s like to have a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses? I have traveled with their Maverick sunglasses from the Aviator collection, and here’s my review and experience from a personal and technical point of view.
From a comparison perspective, I have used quality sunglasses from Ray-Ban and Kapten & Son as well as various budget brands before. While traveling to sunnier destinations I have learned that it’s vital to bring at least one pair of quality sunglasses.
First and foremost it’s a great precaution to protect our eyes since we only have one pair of eyes our whole lives, but also because a place isn’t as enjoyable if you constantly have to peer to see where you are. It’s much nicer to just put on a pair of sunglasses and be able to have your eyes fully open without a struggle.
So, as a full-time traveler I always carry at least 2 pairs of sunglasses, and if you travel regularly, I suggest to invest in some quality sunglasses as well.
My Experience of Maui Jim Sunglasses
It was only recently that I heard of the brand Maui Jim, but I quickly discovered that it was quite a big brand for sunglasses, so I was pretty excited when I received my Mavericks. They come packaged in a beautiful box with a colorful bag (which can also be used as a cleaning cloth).
My first trip with the Maui Jim Sunglasses was to Paris, but unfortunately, it was raining all the time. So the first time I got to wear them was in New York, so not really a beach destination or an island. However, the Maui Jim Sunglasses are stylish and can be used pretty much anywhere. My second destination was London, which is yet another not so typical destination when it comes to sun, but I did get a couple of hours of sun in London.
But the final test came on Mallorca in Spain where the sun is almost always shining. Nature is also very colorful, especially now at spring with greenery and scenery everywhere and beautiful flowers. The different colors of the water are amazing as well.
My Mavericks is comfortable to wear, and after a while, you don’t even think that you wear them. I really appreciate the enhanced color and the fact that the light is very easy on the eyes. Even though it’s sunny outside, you don’t have to peer or worry about UV-rays.
Some other polarized sunglasses I have tried before from various brands have been too dark, which makes it hard to see. This isn’t the case with the Maui Jim sunglasses and their PolarizedPlus2® Lens Technology. With this type of lens, you get pleasant light, which makes it easy to see and at the same time retain the colors.

As you can see in the comparison photo below, to the left you have without the lens, and to the right, you have what it looks like with the lens. And it’s a pretty big difference in terms of color. This technology is definitely what makes the Maui Jim sunglasses so special.
