Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort

Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort

Last time we visited Malta in January, we stayed at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach our last night before our departure to Spain. The reason why we choose this hotel was to make our last night a bit more luxurious and finish it off with a nice breakfast buffet the next morning along with spa facilities.

Here you can read all about our stay at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort on Malta.

Room type

We stayed in a Superior room with a Queen-size bed and ocean view. In the room there was space for work, tv, table and two chairs inside and two outside in the balcony. It’s a bright room with plenty of light.

There’s also a minibar with drinks and snacks. On top of that also Tea and Coffee is available and can be made with a kettle. Regarding the A/C, we noticed that it was controlled centrally and thus not able to regulate it on your own.

Fresh bathroom with everything you could possibly need, including towels, soap, schampoo and shower gel, and of course, a hair dryer.

From the balcony, you get quite a view and there’s also the possibility of having your breakfast served here. Something that I highly recommend if you visit during summer. We stayed here in January, and it was way too windy and cold to enjoy breakfast on the balcony.

Outside the room

Nice interior and great ocean view. There’s also space to sit in the lobby and a nice spa/pool area.

Wi-Fi

Well, I wouldn’t say it was bad, but I will tell you that I expected a faster Wi-Fi connection from a hotel in this price range. In the reception, it worked great, but in our room, on the same floor, it was quite slow from time to time.

Not very workable if you need to do some online work. If you’re on vacation it’s no problem. And also if you really need good a connection you can go to the lobby.

Spa area, sauna, and pool

Guests who stay at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort get free access to the spa area in the hotel next to Corinthia, which is also a Corinthia hotel, but more expensive. There you can enjoy a sauna, massage, facials and an indoor pool and jacuzzi.

The indoor pool wasn’t heated, but it wasn’t cold either. I would guess the temperature to be around 23 degrees celsius. There’s a locker room and you can get a lock if you bring your room key in deposit.

You get towels in the reception in exchange of the Spa vouchers you get when checking in.

Breakfast & Dinner

The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, especially if you are vegetarian or vegan. We were among the first who came to the breakfast buffet and everything was freshly cooked and just been made. The conditions for a good breakfast was thus at its best.

But I’m not impressed, especially considering that this hotel is in the upper price range in Malta. The food was quite okay, but if you compare it with chain hotels like Novotel, Four Seasons, Hilton, Intercontinental and others who are in a similar price range, it is like night and day.

The breakfast is an important meal and a luxury for many who live in hotels, so, unfortunately, I have to give a minus here. One plus however, to the friendly staff who served coffee.

The range is a lot better when it comes to dinner. The hotel shares facilities with the hotel next door and there are both an Italian restaurant with good pizzas and an Asian restaurant that serves food from all over Asia. Would you rather have a light meal and enjoy a good glass of wine, you can go to the wine bar next door.

Staff/Service

The check-in went relatively smoothly, it took about 10 minutes from the time we entered until we got the key to the room. The staff was friendly, answered questions and spoke briefly about the hotel and what they offered.

The Spa staff was very accommodating and let us have two locks, even though we only had with us one room key. The checkout was also relatively smoothly, it is a popular hotel and there seem to be much to do. In connection with the check-out staff also asked if we wanted the shuttle to the airport.

Location

Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort is located in St. Julian’s, next to Paceville, overlooking the sea. It is a quiet location within walking distance to the bar street. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the room or Spa area, then it’s a great location since it’s quiet and peaceful, yet within walking distance from the center of St Julian’s.

But if you want to explore Malta, you’d have to walk to the bus for about 10-15 minutes to Spinola Bay or Il-Triq Ross.

Summary of my stay at the Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort

On the whole, I am satisfied with our stay at the Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort, but since the hotel is in a higher price range for Malta, you should get more value for their money. The pool area and spa were tip top and likewise the restaurant, but when it comes to breakfast and Wi-Fi, some improvement is needed to get a top rating from me.

Would I recommend others to stay here? Well, doubtful. There are many hotels in Malta and for the money you pay per night, there are better and more affordable options than Corinthia Beach Resort. A double room costs about 80-100 Euro a night.

As usual, all my opinions and I always give a 100% honest description of my stay.
