During our recent visit to Phuket, we were invited to stay at the Racha Resort via Smalluxuryhotels for 2 nights. It’s a resort on a secluded island about 25-40 minutes outside Phuket by speed boat.
Here’s a review of our stay and my experience of the Racha Resort in Phuket, Thailand.
Room Standard (Spa Pool Suite)
Our room type at Racha Resort was a Spa Pool Suite, which is a spacious suite with a private pool. The bathroom is huge featuring both a bath tub and two showers, so you can actually shower together with someone, without sharing the same shower.
The living room featured a big couch and a tv as well as the mini bar. From here you can enter the pool or bedroom. Inside the living room, you have a large king size bed and a huge flat tv in the desk that you can pull up with a remote.
Pretty cool feature and the TV was amazing, and there is also a movie library you can choose from, complimentary.
Next to the living room is an outdoor terrace with a nice seating area and a table. Perfect to just relax outside. Last but not least, the private pool area. So amazing, and there is even a bubble function that gives a relaxing massage as well as an outdoor shower.
Of all this, I must say that the pool was my favorite, but the bedroom was amazing too. If you need to work there is also a nice desk suitable for a laptop in the bedroom. To stay in the Spa Pool Suite gives a real sense of luxury, and you don’t even have to leave the room since you have everything you could possibly need inside the suite. Otherwise, you can just call room service and get whatever you need, e.g food.
And of course, it’s nice to go outside, so I don’t recommend to stay inside all the time. The resort area is really nice and lush as well.

Breakfast
The breakfast at the Racha Resort is served at the Earth Café, and it’s a rich breakfast with lots of variations. No matter if you like Thai, Chinese or western style, there is everything. You can also get various types of eggs freshly cooked.
If you feel like celebrating, go for a glass of free champagne, because why not, you’ll be on vacation, and the clock is always after 5 pm somewhere in the world!
Outside the room
The Racha Resort is quite big, and outside the room, you will find a SPA area, fitness center, 3 restaurants and a really nice beach. There are also two pools, one being labeled as the “kids” pool and the other main pool, overlooking the beach and palm trees!
Strolling around the resort gives you some real paradise vibes, and if you want to explore further, you’ll see yourself surrounded by jungle and palm trees.
Spa
If you want to pamper yourself there are several treatments to choose from. We went for the classic Thai Massage, which was really nice. The ladies were professional and VERY strong! I felt relaxed at all time, and even though they twisted and turned my body at times (a part of Thai massage) it never hurt, and they asked if I wanted softer or harder.
Afterward, I felt relaxed everywhere, and I can highly recommend the Thai massage at the Racha Resort!
Restaurants
The Racha Resort has 3 restaurants, Earth Cafe, Sunset Restaurant (Sea food) and the Fire grill that serves Mediterranean food. The atmosphere was screaming vacay, and it felt like we were in a cheesy Adam Sandler movie when the local band started to sing love songs. But it was a good thing, and it made us feel happy and relaxed.
We were enjoying some Sea food and sipping on coconut drinks while the band was playing and singing with the waves of the ocean in the background. Very romantic!
The food at Sunset restaurant was really nice and well made. The staff was quick and service minded with a smile. Unfortunately, we didn’t try the fire grill, but we did have a lunch at the Earth Cafe. I had some Salmon in vodka sauce paired with tagliatelle, and it was delicious!
The Sunset Restaurant is a perfect place to enjoy the sunset and the evening before going back to the suite.
Staff
While Thailand is known as the land of smiles, the staff at the Racha Resort doesn’t disappoint. Always friendly and greets you whenever they see you. Everything runs smoothly, and if you need anything just let the staff know and I’m sure they will make sure to arrange it for you.
This goes for the restaurants and Spa as well. Everyone is super friendly and helpful.
WiFi
The Wi-Fi was good all in all, especially since the location is in the middle of the ocean, you can’t expect the fastest connection. To my surprise it worked quite well actually and even though it was spotty sometimes, it worked well 99% of the time.
You won’t have a problem uploading those lovely vacay shots on your Instagram or Facebook.
Location
If you have dreamt about going to an island with little to no construction, Koh Racha is perfect, because there are only two resorts on the island in total. While there are many uninhabited islands in Thailand, most of them are for day trips only. But Koh Racha is more than just a day trip.
It’s not too far from Phuket and the mainland either. About 25-40 minutes with a speed boat depending on the weather. The speed boat departs from Chalong Pier, and upon arrival, everything will be taken care of when you arrive at their lounge at Chalong Pier.
If you’re looking for a paradise beach, just look at this, and I’m sure you want to come right away!
Summary of our stay at the Racha Resort
Overall we had a great stay at the Racha Resort. It’s surely one of my favorite places in Thailand, and I’m sure I will come back some other time. There is little to nothing to improve, and therefore I won’t do pros and cons for this stay.
Everything was perfect except the weather (but it’s rainy season) and besides, we did have sun for some time. And if we enjoyed this place so much when it was raining, imagine how wonderful it must be while it’s sunny all the time.
The beach was fantastic, and even though it’s a public beach (by law) you won’t have a problem to find a nice spot. The sand is super soft and the color of the water is one of the best I’ve ever seen.
The Spa and Suite were perfect. I loved our private pool, the food, and staff. I would highly recommend anyone who wants a real vacation to go to the Racha Resort. It can be both romantic and family friendly since you have much privacy in regards of other guests.
