Christine and I visited Greece and the island of Skyros in June this year. While exploring Skyros, we stayed at the lovely Dioni Hotel, which is situated in Aspous, just a short ride from Chora (Skyros town).
We stayed at Dioni Hotel for a total of 3 nights and even got the chance to meet the owner’s grand parents and see their garden where they grow and produce fresh vegetables and other things for the breakfast and snack bar.
Here’s a full review of our stay at Dioni Hotel in Skyros Island, Greece.
Room Standard (2-Storey Apartment)
We stayed in a 2-storey apartment, which had a view over the garden and pool area. It was traditionally decorated with Skyrian carvings and lovely details. It’s like a modern version of the traditional Skyrian houses. On the second floor was the bed, which was comfortable and of great size for a couple. The pillows were soft and all in all, I had a pleasant sleep every night.
On the first floor was the main living room, balcony/terrace and a small kitchenette with cooking utensils. The bathroom was also located on this floor and came with fresh towels and toiletries.
In the living room was a couch, tv, and a desk (if you want to do some work). The terrace was really big and even though we had activities planned each evening/night, I’m sure it’s a lovely place to just relax and have a glass of red wine! (or white).
The apartment is suitable for couples or a family that want a good standard with beautiful details. We also saw the smaller room at Dioni Hotel, and they were also nice.

Breakfast
The breakfast buffet was good and had many options to choose from. Many of the breakfast ingredients come from their own garden, which I really like! I love local produce, and you could really taste how fresh the breakfast was.

Outside the room
We spend some time at the pool area, and also took some photos around the garden areas. It’s a lush place with beautiful flowers. They even grow tomatoes here and there. The lobby is beautifully decorated with traditional Skyrian carvings and a modern mix.
It’s very peaceful at Dioni Hotel, and it’s lovely to simply stroll around.
Snack Bar
If you get hungry after some tanning and pooling, go for a light meal or fresh drinks at the snack bar. Enjoy a fresh Greek salad (that was my favorite) or just sip on a mojito or Greek beer.
Staff
The staff, and especially the owner Constantinos and his family are so kind and welcoming. You will feel like home while staying at Dioni Hotel. Like I said before, we even got the chance to meet his grand parents, who showed us around. We even got some fried zucchini flowers (delicious) and fruits.
If I were to say from a scale from 1 to 10, I would give them 11 in hospitality.
WiFi
In the snack bar and lobby, you will have WiFi, and I think that they now also have in the rooms. When we stayed, we didn’t have WiFi in the room, but it didn’t matter that much since we were always doing something anyways. And you could just go down to the lobby if you want to connect.
Location
The hotel is situated in the village of Aspous, which is just a short ride from the Chora (Skyros Town). It’s a calm village with walking distance to Aspous Beach. The location is very nice since you don’t have that much light pollution during the night, you can enjoy the stars!
And since you will probably want a car anyway, you will have no problems to get to other places. There is also free parking available.
Summary of our Stay at Dioni Hotel Skyros
It was a pleasant surprise as we didn’t know much about the hotel or Skyros in the first place. But we had a great stay, and for the price, you pay, you get a great standard and hospitality. The food is freshly made and delicious, as well as the breakfasts with organic products.
Another great thing about Dioni Hotel is the pool, which isn’t full of chlorine. It’s salt water. The hotel garden and areas around the apartments are lush and relaxing.
When I go back to Skyros I will definitely stay at Dioni Hotel again, and I highly recommend you to do the same. You won’t be disappointed.
