Hotel Review – Hotel Alexandra in Copenhagen

Hotel Review – Hotel Alexandra in Copenhagen

A couple of days before Christmas, Christine and I went to Copenhagen, where we stayed at Hotel Alexandra for 2 nights. It’s a unique retro-styled hotel in Central Copenhagen, and here you can read all about what it’s like to stay there and what to expect as a hotel guest!

Short description of Hotel Alexandra

A stylish 3-star hotel in Central Copenhagen with a focus and theme on Danish designers from the 50’s and 60’s. The hotel has a large collection of vintage furniture in all of their rooms. To make it even more authentic they also have matching textiles, wallpapers and other details that will bring you back in time!

Room Standard (Double Room De Luxe – Jens Risom)

We stayed in the Jens Risom room, which is one of their De Luxe Double Rooms. It’s a spacious room with a large comfortable bed and cozy pillows. What makes this room special is, of course, the furniture and decors, which are very pretty. It feels like a stylish home rather than a regular hotel room.

In the room, you’ll also have a couch, desk, chair, and bathroom with a toilet and shower. The thing with Hotel Alexandra is that the furniture they have is all from famous Danish designers such as Finn Juhl, Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Ole Wanscher, Nanna Ditzel, Børge Mogensen. So if you’re into Danish design, you’re going to love this hotel!

Breakfast

First of all, the retro-styled restaurant looks amazing and definitely puts a smile on your face in the morning, very charming. When it comes to the actual breakfast being served I was happily surprised when I saw vegetarian options such as veggie spread instead of butter.

The breakfast buffet at Hotel Alexandra isn’t huge, but it has quite a lot to choose from, not too much and not too little. Another plus for serving whole grain bread, hummus, and smoked salmon.

What We Could Choose From The Breakfast Buffet

  • Scrambled eggs
  • Boiled eggs
  • Bacon
  • Sausages
  • Smoked salmon
  • Oatmeal
  • Hummus
  • Cold Cuts
  • Cheese
  • Veggies
  • Fruits
  • Yoghurt
  • Cereals
  • Different kinds of bread (they even had whole grain bread)
  • Jam, Butter etc.
  • Waffles

Outside The Room

The lobby area is beautifully decorated and is definitely a nice spot to relax or have a drink. We got 1 glass of house wine as a welcome drink, and it was lovely to just sit here and look at everything. When it goes towards summer and warmer temperatures, you can also sit in the outdoor area.

In the lobby, you’ll also find quite a few designer books, and if you’re feeling for some music, you can get your favorite vinyl record played from the hotel’s own vinyl collection.

I would describe the common area of Hotel Alexandra as cozy with stylish retro vibes!

Staff

Upon arrival we were greeted and welcomed by Jesper, who explained everything and also told us about the welcome drink, and that we could always ask if we had some questions about Copenhagen. The check-in went quickly and smoothly, just how I like it.

Every time we went past the reception the staff said hello or wished us a good evening, which is always nice.

WiFi

Wi-Fi is important, and at Hotel Alexandra it worked great everywhere. The connection was strong and reliable in the lobby, breakfast area, and also in our room and the other floors.

The Verner Panton Suite

We also got to see this lovely suite before checking out from the hotel. If you like colors, I would definitely recommend people to stay in their Verner Panton Suite. It’s very elegant with nice details and a lovely view from the living room.

Location

The location is perfect for most occasions in Copenhagen. You have walking distance to several tourist attractions, including Tivoli and Strøget. From Hotel Alexandra, you also have walking distance to the central train station, which is great if you’re coming from the airport or train from Sweden.

Outside the hotel entrance there are buses available to take you to various parts of Copenhagen, and overall it’s a great and convenient location in the city with closeness to almost everything interesting for tourists.

Summary Of Our Stay At Hotel Alexandra

So, what do I think of this hotel? We had a great stay, and there are no complaints at all on the staff or what the hotel has to offer.

The staff at Hotel Alexandra were all friendly and helpful. The location is super convenient, as you can easily walk here from the central station, and you also have walking distance to several tourist attractions. And if you need public transport, it’s literally within 10 meters from the hotel entrance.

What I love about this hotel the most is, however, the cozy and stylish feeling. You can tell that they have a real passion for the Danish retro design. Another thing that’s pretty cool, is the fact that many of the furniture here is worth money and could easily fit into various design museums.

But instead of just looking at the amazing furniture, you can actually use them. If you appreciate design, it will be a cool feeling to just sit down on one of the many design chairs at Hotel Alexandra.

Would I recommend you to stay here?

Yes, absolutely. Hotel Alexandra is an affordable option with a central location where you get great value for your money. It’s also very unique due to the fact that everything is related to Danish retro design from the 50’s and 60’s.
