The Best Hotel Booking sites – From my experience

The Best Hotel Booking sites – From my experience

Ever wondered which are the best hotel booking sites? I have been traveling since 2013 and used most sites for booking hotel rooms, so, fortunately, I’m here to share my experience.

There is plenty of money to save by comparing prices before you actually book your stay. After a lot of research and many years of traveling, these are the best hotel booking websites, according to me.

I have long been a loyal customer of, and there are many reasons that this hotel booking site is my personal favorite. First, it has a fantastic range broadly across the world, and prices are almost always competitive. also offers its customers a reward program that gives you a bonus night for every time you reach ten booked room nights total. In recent years, they have extended their membership program to include benefits and discounts at selected hotels.

Their website and app are easy to use with a nice design and enough filters to sort results effectively. I also find that the majority of hotels listed are of a better standard.

Every 10th night is free via the free reward program
Further benefits for silver and gold members
Most hotels are of a good standard
Great customer service
User-friendly website
Pay online or at the hotel
Price Guarantee
Verified guest reviews
The only negative thing about is that they have a somewhat limited selection of hotels compared to other booking sites.

My experience with is both good and bad. The majority of my bookings have been good, but in cases where the hotel didn’t meet expectations and provided what we’ve paid for, then and their customer service have been terrible.

With that said, is the largest of all hotel booking sites, and you’ll likely not encounter any problems. They have the largest number of hotels, especially budget hotels, including hostels and guesthouses.

While the number of hotels available is greater than other booking sites, I have found that quite a few hotels are of a lower standard with poor reviews. That is something that you don’t see as often when using and Agoda, for example.

Personally, I don’t use it very often because of how their customer service has dealt with bookings that I wasn’t happy with. I also dislike that you can’t always choose whether you want to pay online or at the hotel.

It’s a great website otherwise though, very user-friendly with a nice design. Hopefully, they will improve in the future and offer better payment options as well as a reward program for loyal customers.

Pros Cons
The biggest selection of hotels and accommodation Not the best customer service
User-friendly website Can’t choose to pay online (only sometimes)
Available in most countries around the world No membership program
Price Guarantee
Reviews are from verified guests

Agoda is a big hotel booking site, but it’s relatively unknown in many countries. is undoubtedly the best website to book hotels on when you’re traveling in Asia, and it’s also there they have their greatest range of hotels.

When I travel to Asia, Agoda is the first place where I’m searching for accommodation. It’s definitely one of the best hotel booking sites to use when booking hotels in Asia. Prices are typically lower and the selection of hotels is excellent, especially for budget hotels.

Pros Cons
The best hotel booking site in Asia Somewhat limited outside of Asia
Great membership deals  Not as user-friendly as Hotels or booking
Choose to pay online or at the hotel
Price Guarantee

Other sites for booking hotels

Expedia is actually the owner of and it’s not only a hotel booking site but also one of the major travel companies in the world. Expedia allows you to book packages where both flights and hotels are included, which can sometimes save money.

It’s a convenient website to use for booking trips and one that you can trust. They have excellent customer service as well as their own membership program for special discounts and offers.

Priceline is more than just a hotel booking site, it’s a comparison site and booking engine for hotels, rental cars, flights, packages, and cruises. It has the same owner as and often has great deals.

The big draw of Priceline is its features “Name Your Own Price” option. It’s a neat feature that allows you to name your own price, and if the hotel accepts, you¨ll get the room for that price.

Their express deal is a great feature of Priceline that can save you a lot of money. It hides the hotel name until you book, and the room is sold at a flash deal price. I have used it a couple of times, and I should probably use it more often.

Hotelscombined often gets listed as one of the best sites for booking hotels, and it’s particularly known for its feature to compare room types. The search result displays a large number of hotels and they offer a price guarantee as well.

Trivago is one of the best hotel comparison sites and according to their own website, they search and compare more than 400 booking sites and over 1.8 million hotels in 190 countries.

One thing to keep in mind is that not all hotel booking sites that they list are equal, and some of them have mixed reviews. Trivago is owned by the Expedia group, just like, and it’s great for finding cheap hotels.

There is almost an endless number of hotel booking sites that can be used to book a hotel room. However, from my experience, and the companies that I use myself, the websites mentioned above are the best hotel booking sites in 2019.

My personal favorite site and the one that I almost always use is along with Agoda if I travel to Asia. I only use if I don’t have another option. Most of the time, I don’t use the other sites to book hotels, but they are still good to know about.

Furthermore, in addition to hotels, I regularly use Airbnb as well when I’m staying longer at a destination. Hotels are great if you’re staying a couple of days, but I often prefer staying in apartments for longer trips.

All of the major hotel websites also offer a price guarantee, which essentially means that if you find a cheaper price somewhere else for the same hotel and dates, you’ll get the same price matched.

When to use different hotel booking websites

  • – Best for popular destinations
  • – Budget hotels in major cities
  • Agoda – When you travel to Asia
  • Expedia – Package deals
  • Trivago – If you want to compare various hotel websites at once

The Best Hotel Booking Sites for Comparing Prices

  • Trivago
  • Tripadvisor
  • Momondo
  • Kayak
  • Hotelscombined
  • Skyscanner vs and are the two major hotel booking sites in the world, and it’s a constant battle between them for customers. is owned by Booking Holdings Inc and is owned by Expedia Group, both American companies.

For me, is the clear winner out of these two, and for several reasons. Perhaps the most important, they have a great rewards program that gives you a bonus night for every 10th night.

Furthermore, loyal customers get other benefits at selected hotels such as early check-in, late check-out, wine bottle upon arrival, discounts on spa & restaurants, and lower prices. also lets you choose whether you want to pay for the booking online or upon arrival. The only downside is that they don’t have as many hotels as, which is, in my opinion, the only benefit of using over
