What in the heaven’s world is a beer spa you might wonder, and until I saw a video on Facebook 2 years ago, I didn’t know about it either. But since then, it’s been on my bucket list to bathe in beer and enjoy unlimited tap beer at the same time.
On my recent trip to the Czech Republic, I could finally tick the beer spa experience off my bucket list, and I must say that it’s truly a unique experience.
What’s a Beer Spa?
A beer spa is the perfect experience for any beer-lover who wants to pamper their body and soul. In short, a Beer Spa experience includes a beer bath + your own tap with unlimited beer during the whole spa session.
The Spa treatment takes place in a whirlpool tub made of Royal Oak where natural extracts, brewing yeast, selected varieties of hop, and malt grist. The water is hot and the mixed ingredients will have a therapeutical effect on your body and mind.
Beer Bath
Will you really be bathing in beer? Yes, the ingredients are what the beer is brewed from. And if you want to spice things up, you can also pour some beer from the tap into the tub. The size of the whirlpool tub and how many people it can fit depends on the particular Beer Spa. The same goes for the types of beer and what brand you will be served in the taps.
Christine and I had a private room at Beer Spa Beerland in Karlovy Vary, also known locally as Pivni Lazne. This particular room fits 4 people maximum since there are 2 tubs where you can have a beer bath. The price is quoted per hour and how many people/tubs you’ll be using.
For 1 hour, you’ll get 20 minutes in the whirlpool beer bath and 20 minutes to relax on the bed where you lay on wheat straws.

The tradition of the beer spa is actually an ancient experience dating back to the ancient Egypt and China. The first beer spas can be traced back to around 2000 years ago. In folk medicine, beer baths, and beer drinking cures have a long tradition to cure a number of ailments.
Allergies and maximal effect
If you have protein, yeast or hop allergies it is recommended to consult a doctor before you go to the beer spa.
To get the maximal health and skin effects from the beer bath, it’s recommended to not take a shower for the next 12 hours.

Summary of my beer spa experience
Would I recommend you to experience a beer bath with unlimited beer? YES, totally. It was so much fun and such a different activity, and even if you’re not a beer lover I can recommend you to visit a beer spa. It’s fun and memorable, and of course healthy and good for your skin!
I can definitely see myself visiting a beer spa again and enjoy a beer bath!
Experience from Beer Spa Beerland
This place is located centrally in Karlovy Vary within walking distance from most hotels. It’s situated in the basement, and it was a nice place. They are serving Krusovice beer in two versions, light and dark.
They also have the cutest old lady working there, and she made the beer spa experience even better. While her English was a bit limited, she was very happy and smiled all the time, and that’s the perfect way to welcome guests.
She explained the treatment before Christine and I jumped into the beer bath. The owner was also friendly and explained some more about the treatment as well.
