New York is a big favorite among travelers worldwide. In fact, it is one of the world’s most visited cities along with London. It is a city that never sleeps and there is always something fun to explore, no matter the time of day.
Here are 7 reasons to love New York and why you should go there!
Rooftop bars
Going to the rooftop bar is a must thing to do in New York and there are lots of different rooftop bars to choose from. My three favorites are Pod 39, 230 Fifth and Sky room. Pod 39 is cozy and a little smaller with a homely interior, much like a backyard.
230 Fifth is one of New York’s largest rooftop bars and encompasses about 1,000 people. From there you also have a quite decent view of the majestic Empire State Building. Sky Room has more New Yorkers and fewer tourists. On these two proper dress code is being strict along with a valid ID, otherwise you’ll have to turn in the door.
Brooklyn
The past 15 years, Brooklyn has transformed from industrial and slum into a trendy area that more and more New Yorkers choose to move to. Brooklyn is not a small area and there are more than 2.5 million living here. This is my personal favorite part of New York, and it is much cozier and nicer to hang out in Brooklyn rather than Manhattan.
Here you’ll find loads of organic shops, cafes, trendy bars and a vibe that you won’t find anywhere else in the world!
Skyscrapers
When you wander around New York it’s easy to feel small, partly because you’re in one of the world’s largest cities, but also for all the skyscrapers stretching high into the air. The Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and the Freedom Tower, just to name some of the most famous!
The best place to check out Manhattan’s skyscrapers is from the other side though, in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
Local performers in the subway
There is rarely a quiet moment in the New York subway. There are always local artists who sing, dance or do anything else to make money or become famous. In other words, you’ll almost never be bored when riding the subway in New York.
Check out the video below and you’ll understand what I mean.
Shopping
Like to shop? Then you’ll love New York. Shopping comes in plenty, and for all tastes and budgets. Everything from large designer outlets as Woodbury and Century 21 to all designer brand shops you can imagine. And of course a lot of second-hand, large international chains (Uniqlo, H & M, Zara etc.) and stores run by local designers.
Central Park
Buy a bagel and take-away coffee and walk to Central Park. Stroll around the park and enjoy all the artists, nature, the tame squirrels, small lakes and read a book. Relax or go there for a picnic with friends, family or partner.
This is the city’s green oasis, and to walk around Central Park is always an enjoyable activity in New York and something that many New Yorkers do regularly.
Street art
When you walk around in New York, you will encounter lots of beautiful and funky street art. It’s a bit like a hallmark of the city and you see great paintings here and there. Brooklyn has loads of street art that are worth checking out.
I found this big painting in Brooklyn, at Bedford Avenue. A Tribute to Muhammad Ali.
