Life is short, and you only live once. Cliché? Of course. True? Absolutely.

Therefore, we should take the opportunity to try more things before the time flies by. There is so much one could do, but here are 11 things I think everyone should do at least once in their lifetime.

1. Camping in the wilderness under the stars

It is said that we humans are happiest and feel the best outdoors. Therefore everyone should at some point in life camp out in the wilderness. Gazing upon the stars and thinking about universe is something I find mindblowing, and very interesting.

So far away, but yet they feel so close and visible when you go outside the cities.

2. Volunteer Work

Working as a volunteer is something that everyone should do at least once in life. You will become a  better person and above all get the chance to help others who are less fortuned. Helping others is good for your heart, and together we can make the world a better place for all.

You’ll also become more humble and get the chance to meet other cultures!

3. Stay at a homestay

Instead of staying at a hotel, it is possible in many places to stay in a homestay. This means that you will live with a local family where you can experience the everyday life and get close to the local culture.

You’ll also make friends all over the world!

We recently did a homestay in Tuscany, Italy, and it was so much fun!

4. Hike

Just like when you go camping, you get a special feeling of freedom while you’re hiking. The stress disappears, and you get the chance just to be, and at the same time experience the beautiful scenery of mother nature.

5. Scuba dive

It is remarkable how much of the ocean that’s still unexplored, despite the fact that the earth consists of 70% water. Diving is both exciting and different from everything else that we can experience on land.

Explore ancient shipwrecks, coral reefs and swim among colorful fish and other marine animals.

6. Join a cooking class

Cooking and food is a great interest for many, and to join a cooking class from a kitchen you are interested in is definitely something you should try out, at least once in your lifetime. And besides, who doesn’t love to try some new delicious food?

To do this in a country where the food originates from is always a nice experience.

7. Confront your fears

The best thing you can do to get over their fears is to challenge them. Big or small fear does not matter. The day you decide to confront any of your fears is the same day as you grow as a person.

8. Taste a unique or “weird” dish

In Sweden, we are quite culinary, and most of us have tried many foreign dishes. But it is usually the more familiar and worldwide known dishes that we eat. I would guess that’s true for many other countries as well.

Therefore you should try something different that you’ve never heard of before. How about… Chicken Feet? Or frog legs?

9. Parachute

Few things in the world provide same adrenaline rush as to throw yourself out of an airplane from 10,000 feet.

10. Challenge your Comfort Zone

Life begins outside your comfort zone, and it is there you’ll develop most as a person. It is also where most of the adventures and memories are created. Start with the small stuff that feels uncomfortable, such as talking to a stranger, or ask someone for help.

11. Travel to a lesser known destination

It is easy to stick to classic destinations, and although this is perfectly fine, one should also visit a lesser known destination, at least once. How about Bhutan, Nepal, Namibia, Uganda and Nigeria? Or why not Guatemala, French Guyana, the Faroe Islands or Albania?
